Does your CRE give
your company a competitive edge?

Companies are using their real estate to offer their employees a better experience. Find out how.

November 18, 2021

Companies across a variety of industries are making changes to their physical workspaces to better reflect their employees’ needs and foster a flexible work environment.

From prime office locations to valued amenities, there’s no shortage of ways to cultivate productivity, boost engagement and bolster employee satisfaction with your workspace.

Meeting employee needs

Today, employees say they want to go back to the office three days a week on average. Plus, 61 percent of the workforce crave in-person interactions, which means offices are now more important than ever for engagement and collaboration.

However, it’s no longer enough to simply have an office space alone. Employees value amenities that support their physical and mental wellbeing, as well as working spaces that remind them of home.

To meet their employees’ needs, companies are creating unique workplace environments to engage and invigorate their returning workforce. These amenities include fitness centers, classrooms, presentation studios, coffee options, comfortable furniture, meditation rooms and more. Companies are also reimagining their workspaces to become more social, collaborative, adaptable and increasingly technology-enabled, which in turn helps create a more efficient and effective working environment.

Location, location, location

Location and green spaces are also important factors to consider when selecting an office space. Can employees bike or walk to the office? Does the office building have restaurants or cafes close by? Does the building have accessible parking and electric vehicle charging stations?

Leaders in every organization play an important role in defining their new workplaces. Some important questions for business leaders dealing with these issues include: Are you taking a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of employees? Are you taking the extra steps necessary to address the expectations of your people in this new environment? Most importantly, will the investments you’re considering empower your people?

The workplace of tomorrow

About 33 percent of all employees do not have access to any health and wellbeing offerings today, and 36 percent of employees in the workplace often experience a lack of energy while working. Some even find it hard to remain motivated and engaged in their job. Additionally, JLL research shows that three out of four employees expect their employer to support their health, well-being and nutrition, making it even more imperative to offer these advantages.

Business owners are challenged with finding a balance between efficiency and effectiveness when it comes to selecting a new workspace or redesigning their current spaces. In the war for talent, they now also have to consider their employees’ wellness needs more than ever.
